In a one-man protest, Ickx walked to his car, when it was customary for the drivers to sprint to their cars and Dash off the starting line. He had watched a teammate end his racing career from a crash off the start line. Taking his time, he Buckled his seatbelt and firmly closed the door and took off for the races, keeping him towards the back for majority of the race. Slowly but steadily he made his way to the front of the race, and going head to head in the last hour with the front runner. Ickx came out victorious, taking the number one seat and grabbed his first win out of the six he would accumulate over his career. David Hobbs and Mike hailwood also had a steady and successful race in the #7 Ford GT40, finishing a couple laps behind with a solid 3Rd Place finish.
